06 / INCREMENTAL COMPUTATION

Only rethink
what has changed.

Salsa supplies the incremental query foundation behind Pandora’s symbolic compilation and policy evaluation. Changed inputs propagate; reusable results stay reusable.

01

Make dependencies explicit.

Typed inputs feed deterministic queries. The compiler and policy graph remain separate systems with their own responsibilities, sharing an incremental approach rather than an implicit global cache.

02

Invalidate with identity.

Codegen keys include tenant and compiler fingerprints. Policy inputs carry immutable records, verified content digests, explicit head generations and clock buckets. A meaningful input change can invalidate dependent results.

03

Keep effects outside the graph.

Policy queries read no wall clock, network, random source, process or mutable file. Effectful workers collect evidence before querying. Checkpoints persist verified inputs; internal Salsa IDs and memo tables are not a persistence ABI.
